Hola! Katia here.
Life has a way of surprising us with experiences that can hinder our ability to move forward. My goal as a therapist is to work together with you and come close to your narrative to better understand, process and find solutions for whatever weighs on you.
I am a bilingual clinician and my work is informed primarily by psychodynamic and person-centered modalities. Fancy terms for saying that I place the therapeutic relationship as the most important piece of therapy and see it as the “special place” where change can happen. My specialties include navigating the complexities of grief and loss, supporting individuals through life transitions, exploring identity, and addressing the challenges of complex or multicultural upbringings.
I have been working as a therapist for the past eight years in the US, UK and Mexico. My professional journey began as a behavioral counselor in Australia, where I earned a Bachelor of Social Science. Seeking to deepen my understanding of the human experience, I took a leap to Scotland and earned a Masters degree in Counseling while contributing to a practice and research center. I returned to the USA in 2019 driven by a desire to apply this enriched knowledge closer to home where I have engaged in agency settings and in private practice.
To share a little about me - I was born and raised (half of my life) in Mexico. I have an inner passion to explore different cultures and ways of being which has led me to live in six different countries. I understand first hand the complexities of living across countries, away from the people that matter most to us, and the feeling of being in two places at once. Outside of therapy you can find me hiking, exploring different coffee shops with my partner or chasing after my two beautiful (and highly energetic!) kids.
